Course Description:

Friday 2:00 pm - Evening

** Many live patient demonstrations

Over-the-shoulder clinical demonstrations of different procedures including cavity preps (including minimally invasive preps like tunnel preps and slot preps), gingivectomy, frenectomy, desensitization of sensitive teeth, pulpotomy, extraction of deciduous teeth, recontouring, crown lengthening.

Dr. Chen's laser philosophy will be demonstrated with a review of three techniques:

  1. The Turtle Technique
  2. The Rabbit Technique
  3. The Modified Turtle Technique

Group dinner with Dr. Chen and Associates.

Saturday 8:00am-4:30pm

Lecture on laser history, physics, safety practice, and regulations. (Emphasis on hydrokinetic system on hard and soft tissues.)

More clinical demonstrations. (With better understanding of the hydrokinetic system, the second time around, some of the settings shown are starting to make sense.)

Clinical simulation will be presented.

Group lunch with Dr. Chen and Associates.

* Hands-on experience with the laser on bovine jaws and extracted teeth.

WCLI Associate Fellowship Written Examination.

Power Point review of a potpourri of clinical cases with laser settings provided.

Questions and answers.

At the end of the course, the attendee should have a good understanding of Waterlase laser physics including the reasons why the different power, water, and air settings are used for different procedures. The participant should also have gained more confidence in laser anesthesia and have attained sufficient knowledge about performing a variety of hard and soft tissue procedures. In addition, information on laser safety and regulations obtained from this seminar should allow the doctor to organize and train his/her staff to maintain a successful laser practice.
